After a successful 2010 Aero Design competition, the majority of the team is back to contribute to the design and construction of the 2011 aircraft. There are also a number of newly recruited members, which will allow the UMSAE Aero Design team to grow and work towards another successful competition.
Over the summer, a number of team members began working on a Systems Engineering report, which will be entered to win the NASA Systems Engineering Award at the 2011 Aero Design competition. This will be the first time that the University of Manitoba has entered to win this award. The report is currently in progress, and will develop throughout the aircraft design process.
The 2011 Aero Design rules were released Wednesday, September 15th. Since then, the team has been focusing on developing a concept for their 2011 Aero Design competition entry. The main focus has been generating ideas and investigating alternatives in the areas where the rules differ from last year’s. Once the concept has been finalized, the team intends on holding a Preliminary Design Review and will commence the development of their engineering design.
