The UMSAE Formula team has successfully registered for competition in Michigan and will be sporting a proud number 95 come May 2011! With the warm weather soon to be ending the team is working at getting some end of season testing done with their 2010 car, however the real challenge is what lies ahead for the team. A new goal was set in July to strive toward an increase in manufacturing time using their knowledge from previous cars for the 2011 season. With the new designs well underway for the new car the team is very excited to be progressing towards their second fully composite carbon fibre chassis. The model of the monocoque is almost complete with minimal changes in appearance but a strong focus in weight reduction through optimization and gaining a full understanding of the complex analysis of a composite chassis. The team has set the wheels in motion by contacting industry professionals to assist in the analysis of test samples and to help obtain more information about testing standards and procedures. With newly designed uprights and rotors, a semi-structural diffuser, and many driver cell improvements on last years car, the team is strongly positioned for the season ahead.
