About the Team

Polar Bear Racing designs an open wheel formula style race car each school year to compete in internationally renowned competitions around the world hosted by SAE International and it's associates. This provides students the opportunity to apply their knowledge and take their skills to the next level. Starting with Mini-Indy competitions of the 1980's the team has made great strives in developing a high performance vehicles with the help of our sponsors and much hard work on the part of our members. We hope for many continued years of success as the team continues to strive for success.

Vehicle History

SAE Competition

The SAE Competition has two seperate areas where points are available. Here is some information about these two areas.


Dynamic Events

Acceleration

The Acceleration event evaluates the car's ability to accelerate in a straight, 75 m line

Skidpad

The skidpad event measures the cornering ability of each vehicle on a flat surface in a constant radius turn.

Autocross

The Autocross event tests each cars ability to manoeuvrer and handle on a tight 1 km long course.

Endurance

The Endurance event is a 22 km closed course event designed to evaluate the overall performance, durability, and fuel efficiency of the car.

 

Static Events

 

Technical Inspection

This inspection determines that the prototype vehicle meets the competition rules and requirements.

 

Cost Report

A comprehensive cost report detailing all incurred costs in producing the designed vehicle is submitted to the prior to the competition and is reviewed by a panel of judges.

Design Report

The objective of the engineering design event is to evaluate the engineering effort that went into the design of the vehicle and how the engineering meets the intent of the market, as detailed by the rulebook.

Business Presentation

The objective of the presentation event is to evaluate the team’s ability to develop and deliver a comprehensive business case that will convince the executives of a corporation that the team’s design best meets the demands of the amateur, weekend competition market.
